Dr. Sarah Jones, Ph.D.
(She/Her/Hers)
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist providing services to individuals (adolescents [on a case-by-case basis] and adults) and couples with a wide range of presenting concerns. I welcome people of all identities and lived experiences, and I’m committed to creating a nonjudgmental, inclusive space where you can feel comfortable showing up as your full self and exploring topics that may be difficult to talk about. I am licensed in Washington state and have Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT), allowing me to provide telehealth to clients in all 42 PSYPACT participating states (click here to see if your state participates).
I frequently work with clients navigating:
Attachment issues
Depression
Emerging adult concerns
Identity development and exploration
Infertility
Concerns often encountered within LGBTQIA+ communities
Relationship stressors
Sexual health and wellness (including problems with desire, arousal, orgasm, pain)
Trauma
Problematic sexual behavior
Therapeutic Approach
My practice is rooted in insight-oriented, psychodynamic therapy. I believe building a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change, and I’m committed to creating a genuinely warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental space where you can comfortably express yourself. Together, we’ll look at both internal experiences and interpersonal patterns - helping you gain clarity, deepen self-awareness, and work through what may be getting in the way of accomplishing your goals. I also believe therapy doesn’t have to be all seriousness, all the time. Humor, when it shows up, can be incredibly healing - reminding us that there can be moments of levity even in difficult times. Additionally, I value integrating other evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) depending on your goals. Therapy is never one-size-fits-all, and I strive to personalize our work to support you in the ways that feel most meaningful and effective.
Our work typically begins with a comprehensive intake where we’ll explore what’s bringing you in, what you’re hoping to get out of therapy, and important aspects of your history and current life. It’s also a time for us to get a sense of how it feels to work together—and to make sure it’s the right fit on both sides. If we decide to move forward, sessions are usually held weekly, and may shift in frequency as you begin to meet your goals or prepare to transition out of therapy.
Education and Experience
I earned my B.A. in Psychology and both my M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. During my doctoral training, I gained experience across a variety of settings including community mental health, university counseling, psychiatric inpatient care, a university-based assessment clinic, and a non-profit organization supporting survivors of sexual abuse and individuals seeking accountability for harm caused.
I completed my predoctoral internship at Mt. Sinai St. Luke’s and Roosevelt hospitals in New York City, where I trained in general outpatient and inpatient mental health, intensive treatment for personality disorders, and at a therapeutic high school. Following that, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at a private practice specializing in the treatment of a variety of relationship and sexual concerns where I had the privilege of working alongside and learning from experts in the field.
After fellowship, I worked for seven years at the Department of Veterans Affairs as a staff psychologist providing individual, group, and couple’s therapy, as well as clinical supervision of trainees and junior colleagues. While there, I co-developed a Sexual Wellness Assessment and Intervention Clinic where I collaborated with providers from various clinics - including OB/GYN, pelvic floor physical therapy, pain, primary care, urology, and with other mental health providers - to deliver comprehensive psychological assessment, consultation, and treatment for sexual concerns.
I strongly believe that learning, integrating science into my practice, and honing my skill as a therapist is a lifelong endeavor. In addition to staying engaged with emerging scientific research and pursuing regular advanced education, I am also completing requirements for certification as a Sex Therapist through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT).
Personal Interests
When I’m not working, I’m usually cherishing time with my family. I enjoy good food, exploring new places, and getting outside and connecting with nature.
